This Monday morning brought along pleasant surprises and very welcome young guests. So, the first tomato of the Suhyana variety is here. Just a pea sized green bud. It's beautiful. And I can't keep from smiling. I think, the other thing that brought about excitement in discovering the find was its poetic timing. So, I'd called my garden-guru (ref geekgardener.in) this morning, asking him what and when to expect, now that the tomatoes had begun to bloom with bright yellow flowers. And there! I saw the green pearl hanging innocuously among a bunch of yellow flowers. There was a lot of joy, possibly squeals of delight from my end of the phone, for the child in the garden-guru could detect and feel the excitement in spite of being hundreds of kilometers away. He was good enough to share, how he had reacted when he saw his first tomatoes fruiting. Here...
So, I guess the taps and shakes with my fingers every mid-morning would work just fine. 'I don't need no vibrators; I got hands'. What I need to take care of now, is the size of the plant. It continues to grow tall and the top branches have already touched the 6.5 feet high green-house ceiling. I intend to now gently bend the top of the plant and guide it along the ceiling. Let's see how that works. For now, it's as tall as...
Incidentally, the cherry tomato has also grown fairly tall. Tall enough to reach my chest. Here...
Three additional tomatoes that I'd planted in the grow bed are also thriving well so far.
And then, there's the dream-like asparagus. It's fine fern like structure exudes an ethereal beauty.
The radish thrives happily. It continues to spring bright green leaves and I intend to let it continue lend support to my salads.
The cucumber seems to have stabilised. Though there is no dramatic increase in the number of young leaves, they seem healthy, with constant efforts from Shankar and me at keeping the aphids at bay.
The raft systems are bustling with activity. For instance, greens are green, but some are deeper...from the core of their beings. And I feel blessed to witness the glory of this lush array. This then is the spinach.
And then there's methi. I never knew, methi flowered too. Here...
It's time now to start planning a second lot of plants for the first raft I'd started. For, the leaves are gradually being consumed from it at a rate faster than it is now being able to generate. More on that later.
